Employers warned that strong diversity and inclusion culture is critical as they face continuing talent crunch

                                                     

In a comprehensive survey, ACCA's Global Talent Trends 2024 highlights a critical diversity and inclusion culture, AI's role in the profession, and mental health concerns in the workplace, with an in-depth look at South Asia's unique market dynamics.

This wake-up call for employers comes in the biggest global talent survey across the accountancy profession, ACCA’s (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) latest annual Global Talent Trends survey 2024 provides a unique and vital view of how people feel about their life at work.

Almost 10,000 professional accountants from 157 countries were asked about the concerns they held around work in the future as well as aspirations for their careers. The survey also assessed key workplace issues such as hybrid working, diversity, mobility and mental health and the cost-of-living crisis.

According to the survey, a significant 73% of professionals believe that a robust diversity and inclusion culture is crucial in choosing an employer, signalling an urgent call for organisations to broaden their diversity initiatives beyond traditional dimensions to include aspects such as age and neurodiversity.

Furthermore, the survey reveals a mixed reception towards AI, with 78% of respondents acknowledging its potential to enhance the role of finance professionals by allowing them to add more value. However, there's a palpable concern about the rapid pace of technological change, with a notable demand for more training on technology (85%) to ensure professionals are well-equipped to leverage these advancements.

 

The mental well-being of employees also emerges as a critical concern, with 57% of respondents reporting that work pressures adversely affect their mental health. This underscores the necessity for employers to intensify their support and develop more effective well-being programs to alleviate work-related stress and anxiety.

LAHORE GLOBAL VILLAGE FESTIVAL ATTRACTS OVER 100,000 ATTENDEES, HIGHLIGHTS VIBRANT CULTURAL CELEBRATIONS

                         

The Lahore Global Village Festival, a three-day extravaganza celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Lahore, concluded with resounding success, attracting over 100,000 enthusiastic attendees. Google supports the upcoming general election 2024 in Pakistan

                                                 

Supporting elections is a critical part of Google’s responsibility to our users and the democratic process. As Pakistanis take to the polls to vote in the National election to elect representatives for the National Assembly and Provincial Assemblies on February 8th, we’re committed to working with government, industry, and civil society to connect voters with helpful and authoritative information, and keep our platforms safe from abuse.

Connecting voters with helpful information

We know that in the run-up to elections, people need useful and relevant information to help them navigate the electoral process. We make reliable information easily available with helpful product features, showing data from trusted, nonpartisan organisations on how and where to vote across our products: 

Google Search: Our ranking systems are designed to elevate authoritative information and provide context to users on a variety of elections related information. In addition, the Google homepage will have links that direct voters to authoritative information on ‘how to vote’ and ‘how to register to vote’

YouTube: For news and information related to the election, our recommendation system prominently surfaces content and relevant context from authoritative sources, including local and national news sources on the homepage, in search results and the “Up Next” panel, to connect people to high-quality election news and information. 

Google Trends: to help the media and public explore what voters care about this election, we’ve launched a Google Trends page, a tool that helps surface the top queries, topics, and interests in parties running in the elections. The page also includes data on the top election-related topics searched in each part of the country, such as the economy, taxes and wages, among others. This does not reflect voting intentions but it does provide unique insights into what people are searching for.

Google News Initiative: We ran a series of workshops to equip journalists with the right resources to inform their news coverage during elections, including teaching them about tools for news verification, digital security, and using Google Trends.

Farhan Qureshi, Google’s Country Director for Pakistan said “In the lead-up to the election, we have focused our efforts on supporting Pakistanis who are expected to cast their vote by helping them connect to useful and relevant election-related information online. We have also invested in the news ecosystem and trained journalists and newsrooms on reporting authoritative and credible news ahead of the election cycle. Recently, we launched a Google Trends Pakistan General Election page to make it easier for the media to find this data for their stories.” 

Safeguarding our platforms from abuse

Protecting the integrity of elections also means keeping our products and services safe from abuse. Across Google and YouTube, we have long standing policies to keep our platforms safe, and that apply to everyone and for all types of content, including elections. Our YouTube Community Guidelines include policies against hate speech, harassment, incitement to violence, technically manipulated content, and certain types of election misinformation. We rely on a combination of machine learning and human reviewers to identify and remove content that violates our policies – between July and September 2023, we removed over 8.1 million videos and over 10 million channels globally for violating our Community Guidelines on YouTube. 

Qureshi added, “Election integrity is a top priority for YouTube, and we’ve been working to ensure the right policies and systems are in place to support the country’s elections. On top of connecting people to authoritative and quality information, we remove violative content in a timely manner with the help of machine learning and trained reviewers. Our goal is to maintain the right balance between protecting our community from harm and enabling a diversity of viewpoints to thrive on YouTube.”
